In this case study
On a catalogue with hits going back two decades, we found 538 businesses and organisations that had used its music in their own posts.
What we looked at
The catalogue spans a few hundred compositions and several thousand recordings, by the original artist and by others, released in more than sixty countries. We searched TikTok and Instagram from 3 to 14 September 2026 for businesses using its music in their own posts. The search covered every song the owner has a share in, as far as the platforms allow. The business posts we found were made between April 2020 and September 2026.
The platforms' own figures put the videos made with its songs at close to 195,000, and the views on them at about 3.6 billion.
What we found
The 538 businesses and organisations range from beauty, jewellery, fashion and footwear brands to homeware, toys and sport, coffee and bakery chains, a broadcaster and other media organisations.
We found 580 business posts, made in 26 countries, most of them in the US (322) and the UK (90).
What stood out
Of the views the platforms show on all videos made with its songs, 58% are on copies of the songs that other users uploaded with no credit to the artist.
Among 31 businesses whose own feeds we read, 18 had used the catalogue more than once. One seller ran 24 adverts on a single song in nine months.
Where it stands
Every one of the 580 posts is captured as evidence. Each capture holds the video or images, the audio, hashes, screenshots and the page record.
